In Brazzaville on April 30, 2026, experts from the Republic of the Congo met with WHO to prepare the introduction of a malaria vaccine in health centers. This mosquito-borne disease is still very common in the country. In 2025, there were about 1.4 million cases and 2,250 deaths according to health authorities.
Two vaccines already exist, called RTS,S and R21. They do not replace mosquito nets or medicines, but they help protect children and reduce severe cases of the disease.
Specialists say this vaccine could save many lives, especially young children. They are also working to make sure families can easily access it.
