The great day when African countries decided to talk to each other

In this ANAKids series on Africa Day, you discover how African countries learned to be free, and then how they began to build their future together. This third episode takes you to a very important moment: May 25, 1963, the day leaders decided to meet to imagine a united Africa.

Now that the countries are free, they must learn how to build their future.

On May 25, 1963, leaders from several countries met in a large city called Addis-Ababa. They came from different regions of the continent, but they shared one common idea: to help each other and work together.

During this great meeting, they discussed important topics such as peace, education, health, and the future of children. They knew that alone, countries can be fragile, but together, they can be stronger.

At the end of the meeting, they decided to create an organization called the Organization of African Unity. This moment became very important in the history of the continent, because it showed that freedom is not enough: unity must also be learned. That is why, every year on May 25, people remember and celebrate the creation of the Organization of African Unity. It is like a big team made up of several countries of the continent.

Today, this organization is called the African Union. It helps countries to talk together, solve problems, and build a more stable future.

May 25 became a special day called Africa Day. In many countries, children take part in activities: they learn songs, discover maps, listen to stories, and play games about the continent.

This day reminds us of something important: even if countries are different, they can move forward together and share ideas for a better future.
