A magic ball for blind children in Kenya

Thanks to a noisy ball, visually impaired children can finally play football like everyone else. A wonderful idea from Nairobi!

In a small workshop in Nairobi, an invention is changing the lives of blind children: the Soundball. This special ball contains metal beads that make noise when it rolls. So, even without seeing, children can hear the ball and play football.

The NGO Alive and Kicking handcrafts these balls. « Everyone has the right to play, » says Martin Bernard, its founder. Thanks to him, students at a special school in Thika are rediscovering the joy of sports. Dennis, 18, who lost his sight, smiles again while playing: « I feel included, » he says.

In Kenya, this ball is more than a toy: it’s a symbol of hope. « It’s a beautiful proof that anything is possible, » sums up Paralympic athlete Henry Wanyoike.
