A new cancer fighting center in Africa !

Department of Science and Innovation

Hey friends! Guess what? A brand new center has opened its doors in Pretoria, South Africa, to help fight cancer all across the African continent!

The center, called NuMeRI, is a special place where doctors learn to use nuclear medicine to help people with cancer. It’s located at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital and has super advanced equipment to help diagnose, treat, and study cancer.

NuMeRI’s president, Mike Sathekge, said that collaborations are underway with institutions in several African countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Mauritius, Zambia, Namibia, Senegal, and Ethiopia.

This center is really special because it has been designated by the International Atomic Energy Agency as a regional « anchor center ». That means it will help train doctors to treat cancer all across Africa.

But that’s not all! The South African government has invested a lot of money into this center to make it super awesome. They even built a brand new building to house NuMeRI!

So, it’s really big news for everyone fighting cancer in Africa. Congratulations to NuMeRI and everyone who worked so hard to make it a reality!
