Uganda and the World Health Organization (WHO) have started a trial to test a vaccine for Ebola. This trial is happening very quickly to protect people from the disease.
Ebola is a very serious disease caused by a virus. It makes people sick and spreads when someone touches fluids like blood or saliva. Right now, there is no medicine or vaccine to cure Ebola, but scientists are trying to make one.
A clinical trial is a test where scientists check if a vaccine or medicine works well and is safe. People volunteer to take part in this trial to see if the vaccine can help prevent the disease. This trial started very quickly, just 4 days after sick people were found, to protect those who were close to them.
The vaccine has already been tested to make sure it’s safe. Now, scientists want to see if it can stop the virus from spreading. With help from WHO and other partners, the first vaccines have been given to people who were in contact with the sick people.
This is a big step to better prepare and protect people against Ebola.
