The Australian surf giant Billabong and the African brand Mami Wata have created a collection together. Their goal? To show that surfing also has roots in Africa, which are often forgotten.
Did you know that surfing already existed in Africa long before it became famous worldwide? That’s what Billabong, a well-known Australian brand, and Mami Wata, a creative African brand, want to share. Together, they launched a new surfwear collection inspired by African art and symbols.
They remind us that on the coasts of Ghana, people were surfing as early as the 1600s! This beautiful collaboration shines a light on this forgotten history. Plus, part of the sales will help young girls in Senegal learn how to surf through the Malika Surf association.
It’s a wonderful way to mix sport, culture, and solidarity, while celebrating Africa and its ancient connection to the ocean.
