COP29: Africa calls to save the planet

African countries are asking for help to fight global warming.

COP29, a major meeting where countries from around the world gather to discuss the future of the planet, ended last week in Baku, Azerbaijan, a country in Eastern Europe. The goal? To find solutions to protect Earth and prevent it from warming up even more. Global warming happens when the planet gets hotter because of gases released by cars, factories, and airplanes. This causes disasters like droughts, floods, and storms.

During the conference, African countries said that the promises made by rich countries to help fight global warming are not big enough. For example, they proposed giving 250 billion dollars every year to help countries combat climate change. But African countries believe that’s not enough because they need more money to deal with problems like drought and hunger.

African countries are also asking for technologies to better protect their land and to use cleaner energy sources, like solar or wind power. If rich countries don’t make more efforts, COP29 might not provide the solutions the world is waiting for.
