Extreme heat in the Sahel : how does it happen ?

An intense heatwave hit the Sahel region in early April, and scientists say it was caused by human-induced climate change. This led to very high temperatures and serious problems in countries like Mali and Burkina Faso.

A recent study found that the scorching heat that struck the Sahel in April was caused by global warming. For five days, from April 1st to 5th, it was very hot in Mali and Burkina Faso. Temperatures were so high, over 45°C, that many people fell ill or even died.

Scientists say this happened because of what humans are doing to the planet. They use things that emit gases that make the air warmer. Even though people in the Sahel are used to the heat, this time it was different. There were power outages, so fans and air conditioners weren’t working. And hospitals were full because many people were sick from the heat.

We don’t know exactly how many people died from this heat, but it was surely a lot. This shows that we need to take care of our planet to prevent this from happening again.
