Did you know that Flamenco, the energetic Spanish dance, has links to Africa? Let’s discover its fascinating history!
Flamenco is a dance and music from Spain, especially popular in the south, in places like Jerez de la Frontera. But did you know it has African roots too? This is what artists from Equatorial Guinea and Spain discovered in 2025 during a major project called FlamencoGEN. For several days, they worked together to explore how African sounds, rhythms, and dances influenced Flamenco.

On April 4, 2025, they presented the results of their work in an amazing concert in Jerez. This project helped show that Flamenco is a blend of different cultures, and that Africa played an important role in its creation.
FlamencoGEN showed us that in music and dance, there are no borders, and the history of Flamenco is even more beautiful when we know its African origins !
