For the first time in recorded history, a volcano in Ethiopia erupted. Luckily, no one was hurt.
Hayli Gubbi volcano in northern Ethiopia woke up on November 23, 2025, for the first time in nearly 12,000 years! Huge ash clouds rose 14 km into the sky, covering nearby villages and affecting homes and animals. Satellites captured stunning images of this amazing eruption. Mobile medical teams were sent to help people. The ash even traveled as far as Pakistan and northern India, causing some flight disruptions. This eruption reminds us that Ethiopia has about 50 active volcanoes and that nature can surprise us!
