In Sudan, the National Museum of Khartoum, looted in 2023, has come back to life online. Thanks to French researchers, hundreds of ancient objects are now visible on the Internet, bringing new hope for Sudan’s heritage.
After the museum was looted, losing many of its 100,000 artifacts, researchers used photos and inventories to create a virtual museum. Since January 1, 2026, anyone can explore 500 objects online.
The virtual museum allows children, students, and researchers to discover Sudan’s history, from Meroitic statues to medieval relics, even though the real museum suffered from the war.
