« We are receiving this vaccine for the first time to fight malaria, one of the leading causes of child mortality, » said Roger Samuel Kamba, Minister of Public Health of the DRC. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), 693,500 doses of the malaria vaccine have been received to protect children aged 6 to 23 months.
In 2023, the DRC reported over 27 million cases of malaria, resulting in 24,344 deaths. The RTS, S/AS01 and R21/Matrix-M vaccines are recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to protect children from this dangerous disease.
