Mount Mulanje is special for two main reasons: its amazing nature and the ancient stories linked to it. For local communities, the mountain is sacred. They believe that spirits, ancestors, and invisible forces have lived there for a very long time.
For hundreds of years, people have visited sacred trees, rocks, and natural pools to pray, ask for rain, or seek healing. The mountain is huge, covering almost 897 km², and it attracts many visitors. Even today, many Malawians still trust traditional medicine.
But Mount Mulanje is fragile. Part of its forest has disappeared because of deforestation. Thanks to its UNESCO status, Malawi hopes to better protect this magical mountain and pass its story on to future generations.
