May 8 marks the end of World War II in Europe. It’s also a time to remember that Africa helped build peace.
On May 8, 1945, World War II ended in Europe. Germany surrendered. This day is celebrated to honor the victims and thank those who fought for freedom 🕊️.
But did you know that many soldiers came from Africa? Thousands of men from Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Benin, Chad, and other countries joined the armies to help free Europe.
They faced cold, danger, and injustice—often without being fully recognized.
May 8 is also a time to thank them and to remember that Africa played an important part in bringing peace.
