More than 50,000 people vaccinated against mpox in Africa!

Over 50,000 people have already been vaccinated, which is great, but the virus is still around…

Africa is facing a virus called mpox, which is somewhat similar to smallpox. To help countries like the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, the WHO has started distributing vaccines. More than 50,000 people have already been vaccinated, which is fantastic, but the virus is still present.

Rwanda has done an incredible job conducting clinical trials to test the vaccines. But what is a clinical trial? It’s like a big scientific experiment where doctors and scientists test a new medicine or vaccine on volunteer people to see if it works well and if it’s safe. Thanks to these trials, researchers have been able to ensure that the mpox vaccine is effective.

There are two versions of this virus in Africa. In some areas, it mostly affects children, while in others, it also targets adults. Since the beginning of the year, over 48,000 cases have been reported, and unfortunately, more than 1,000 people have died from it.

To help even more, the WHO has created a plan to send millions of doses of vaccines to different countries. In total, nearly 6 million vaccines will be available by the end of 2024.

But getting vaccinated is just part of the solution. It’s also very important to test people to find those who are sick. If everyone works together, we can help stop mpox and keep everyone safe!
