Mpox : Africa’s response plan

@UN

Hey young friends! Have you heard about Mpox? It’s a disease that Africa is working hard to fight with a big plan. In September 2024, a budget of 600 million dollars has been set aside to help African countries prepare and respond to this disease until February 2025. 💵🌍

Since August 13, 2024, the Africa CDC, like a team of health superheroes for all African countries, has declared Mpox a public health emergency in Africa. This means the whole team is working to support affected countries. The Public Health Emergency Operations Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has been reactivated and is monitoring cases 24/7. 🚨👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Regional coordination centers in Lusaka, Nairobi, and Libreville are also helping to manage the situation. They use technology and communication systems to coordinate efforts. Training is ongoing to learn how to collect samples and diagnose Mpox, and 20,000 test cartridges have been bought. 🧪📊

A new surveillance method has been launched to better detect and respond to Mpox cases. Over 2,000 people attended a big conference in Kinshasa to improve treatments. 🗣️💬

The continental response plan, created with the World Health Organization (WHO), focuses on 10 key areas like coordination, surveillance, vaccination, and research. Countries are grouped by risk level to better use resources. 🌍💉

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has contributed 10 million dollars and requested vaccines for children. 🎯🌟 Efforts continue with partners like WHO, UNICEF, and Médecins Sans Frontières to support the fight against Mpox. The message is clear: we need to work together to protect all children and families! 🌟🤝
