Niger : young people and elders unite to build the future

In Niamey, young people and elders came together to talk, learn and imagine Niger’s future. A powerful moment of sharing and hope.

On December 30 and 31, 2025, a special event took place in Niamey, the capital of Niger: the Intergenerational Dialogue. For two days, young people and elders met at the Mahatma Gandhi Conference Center to talk about the country’s future.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Sidi Mohamed Almahmoud, described the meeting as a real “School of the Nation.” Elders shared their stories, values and life lessons, while young people spoke about their ideas and dreams. Everyone listened and learned from each other.

A strong symbol was the “palaver tree,” a place where people talk calmly and with respect. The message was simple: a country grows stronger when generations work together.

Young people were also encouraged to use social media to spread positive messages and fight misinformation.
As Niger prepares for 2026, this dialogue shows a country ready to move forward together, united and confident.
