Ojude Oba : The Yoruba Royal Celebration

In Nigeria, the city of Ijebu Ode shines bright to honour its king…

Every year after Eid, the people of Ijebu Ode, Nigeria, celebrate Ojude Oba, which means « the king’s court ». It’s a big cultural festival full of colour, music, and tradition to thank their king.

Groups called Regberegbe, made of friends of the same age, wear beautiful traditional clothes and parade proudly. There are also horse shows and dances!

Their king, Awujalé Sikiru Adetona, has been loved for over 60 years. Ojude Oba is where old traditions and new joy meet in a happy dance !
