Senegal: African students crowned world champions of space innovation!

Senegal has won a major international competition called ActInSpace 2026, held on April 2 in Bordeaux, France. This is a historic first: the country becomes the first African champion of this global space innovation contest.

Teams from more than 20 countries took part, featuring highly talented young innovators from around the world. But it was the Senegalese students from the Dakar American School of Science and Technology (DAUST) who won the challenge with a highly innovative space-related idea.

In total, around 1,800 participants from 35 countries worked on projects designed to solve real-world problems using space technologies. The competition is supported by major institutions such as the CNES (French Space Agency) and the ESA (European Space Agency).

Before winning globally, the Senegal team had already secured victory at the national stage in Dakar.

This achievement sends a powerful message: African youth can create, innovate, and succeed in the most advanced fields such as space and science.
