Egypt has launched the partial opening of its Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the pyramids of Giza. But visitors will have to wait a little longer to see the treasures of King Tutankhamun. A grand inauguration is expected, with guests from around the world!
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has finally begun welcoming visitors! Located right next to the famous pyramids of Giza, this museum, which has been under construction for over 20 years, has opened part of its galleries. However, the most precious items, like those of King Tutankhamun and the ancient solar boats found near the pyramids, are not yet on display.
This partial opening allows visitors to explore some parts of the museum, including the main entrance hall with its impressive pharaonic statues. Visitors can also enjoy a commercial area. According to authorities, many leaders have expressed their wish to attend the official grand opening, but no date has been set yet.
Egyptian archaeologist Ali Abu Al-Shish explained that this opening shows that Egypt is ready to showcase its treasures, including those recovered from other countries. For him, it’s a strong message: « We can reclaim our antiquities scattered around the world. »
The Egyptian government hopes that this museum will attract many tourists, as tourism is very important for the country’s economy.
