Zimbabwe says no to the death penalty

@Amnesty international

Zimbabwe has decided to stop executions with a new law. A big step forward for human rights!

Zimbabwe has made a major decision to say no to the death penalty. Thanks to a new law signed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, people sentenced to death will no longer be executed but will instead go to prison. This means there will be no more executions in the country. This decision has been highly praised by Amnesty International, which sees it as a major progress for human rights.

The last execution took place in 2005. Since then, no one has been executed, although death sentences have still been handed down for serious crimes. President Mnangagwa, who himself was sentenced to death during the war for independence, is against the death penalty. This new law shows that Zimbabwe wants to protect the rights of every individual.

With this decision, Zimbabwe joins other African countries that have also abolished the death penalty, and it gives hope for even more countries in the future.
