Rwanda : a story of resilience and hope

30 years ago, Rwanda was struck by a terrible tragedy. But today, the country shows us that even after the darkest times, it’s possible to rise again.

In the 1990s, Rwanda was torn apart by a genocide that cost the lives of nearly a million people. But since then, the country has embarked on an extraordinary journey of reconstruction and healing. Through concerted efforts, Rwanda has overcome divisions and rebuilt its social fabric.

Under the leadership of the Rwandan government, bold policies have been implemented to promote national reconciliation and unity. Gacaca courts were established to try genocide-related crimes, and rehabilitation programs were put in place to help victims rebuild their lives. Liberation Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the end of the genocide, reminding the world of the importance of peace and tolerance.

Rwanda has also invested heavily in education and empowering women. Girls now have the same opportunities as boys to go to school, and the country ranks among the highest in the world in terms of female representation in parliament. Additionally, initiatives such as the « Smart Rwanda » program have improved access to public services through technology.

Despite ongoing challenges, Rwanda continues to progress. It has turned its pain into strength, becoming an example of resilience and hope for the entire world. The country reminds us that even in the darkest times, there is always light.
