African Heroes of the 2024 Olympic Games !

The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris were spectacular, and African athletes truly shined! They demonstrated their talent and courage, winning a total of 39 medals: 13 gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze, representing 12 different nations.

Kenya performed the best with 11 medals, including 4 gold, followed by Algeria with 3 medals, including 2 gold. Imane Khelif, despite controversy over her gender, was crowned Olympic champion in boxing in the -66 kg category. South Africa also shone with 6 medals, including 1 gold.

Here are some highlights:

  • Women’s Marathon: Silver for Tigst Assefa (Ethiopia) and Bronze for Hellen Obiri (Kenya).
  • Women’s Boxing -75 kg: Bronze for Cindy Ngamba (AIN).
  • Modern Pentathlon: Gold for Ahmed Elgendy (Egypt).
  • Taekwondo +80 kg: Bronze for Cheick Sallah Cisse (Ivory Coast).
  • Men’s Marathon: Gold for Tamirat Tola (Ethiopia) and Bronze for Benson Kipruto (Kenya).
  • Men’s 800 m: Gold for Emmanuel Wanyonyi (Kenya) and Bronze for Djamel Sedjati (Algeria).

African athletes also won medals in sports such as Taekwondo, the 4 x 400 m relay, javelin throw, and even rugby sevens. Heroes like Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet from Kenya, as well as Firas Katoussi from Tunisia, have made the continent proud.
