Belindah, the guardian of road safety in Botswana

Tendai Belindah Lisenda, known as Belindah, is a road safety hero in Botswana. Thanks to her work, children can go to school safely.

Belindah is the road safety coordinator in the Letlhakeng district. She does everything she can to reduce road accidents involving children. In 2013, she launched a school patrol program. With the help of the police and volunteers, she helps children cross the road safely. This idea worked so well that it inspired other groups to do the same.

To make road safety even more visible, Belindah and her team painted pictures on the walls of schools in remote areas. These murals show children how to cross the road safely, and they learn while having fun.

In 2024, Belindah started using a tool called Star Rating for Schools (SR4S). This tool helped her better understand the dangers on the road and how to avoid them. Now, she also teaches others how to make roads safer. Her dream is for all school roads in Botswana to be rated at least 3 stars for safety.

Belindah hopes everyone will work together to ensure roads are safe for children. Her work helps make roads safer for all schoolchildren in Botswana.
