Burkina Faso: new schools built with UNICEF and Japan to help children learn better

Burkina Faso, UNICEF and Japan have opened eight new schools to help children learn in better conditions.

On 19 May 2026 in Ouagadougou, five general education colleges and three technical and vocational schools were inaugurated. According to official information from UNICEF and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), these schools are part of a programme launched in 2022 that has already delivered 26 colleges across the country. The investment for this phase amounts to 8.7 million US dollars.

These new facilities include modern classrooms, laboratories and computer rooms. They aim to improve access to education for thousands of children, including girls, and support technical training, which remains essential for youth opportunities and future employment.
