Africa’s Amazing Mysteries – Episode 1: Why Do Giraffes Sleep So Little?

Giraffes live on the African savannah, where they must stay alert for lions and other predators. That is why they sleep in many short naps during the day and night. Altogether, they usually sleep for only 30 minutes to 2 hours a day.

Their great height and excellent eyesight help them spot danger from far away. They often rest while standing and only lie down for very short periods when they feel safe.
