Amazing African Woman: Queen Nzinga, Angola’s Warrior Queen

Many centuries ago, in what is now Angola, lived a very special queen: Nzinga. She became an important figure in the Kingdom of Ndongo and later ruled the Kingdom of Matamba.

But Nzinga was not just a queen sitting on a throne! She was also an amazing diplomat and a military leader. As Portuguese expansion grew in the region, she used her intelligence, alliances and negotiating skills to defend her kingdoms.

Nzinga also led military campaigns for several decades. She knew how to think strategically… and was never afraid of a big challenge!

She died in 1663 after a long reign. Today, Queen Nzinga remains one of the great figures in Angola’s history.
