More than 1,000 years ago, one woman decided to help knowledge grow. Her name? Fatima al-Fihriya!
Fatima al-Fihriya was born in Kairouan, Tunisia, and later moved to Fez, Morocco. In 859, she founded Al-Qarawiyyin, a centre of learning that became one of the world’s oldest continuously operating institutions of higher education.
Fatima used her wealth to create this important centre of knowledge. Over time, Al-Qarawiyyin became a place for learning and intellectual exchange.
Her superpower? Believing that knowledge can change the world!
