Today, September 28, a new training programme on artificial intelligence and robotics begins in South Africa. Teachers will learn about these technologies and how to support AI and robotics school clubs. The programme is led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), with support from Google.org and in collaboration with UNICEF’s Giga initiative.
But why learn about robots at school? Because a robot is not just a machine that moves! Building or programming one means learning how to think, solve problems, code and work as a team.
The programme also aims to help young people understand artificial intelligence and, perhaps one day, create their own technologies.
