A special monument for Thomas Sankara, hero of Burkina Faso

On May 17, a special place will open in Ouagadougou to honor Thomas Sankara and his friends. A place to remember and dream.

In Burkina Faso, a big monument is being built to honor Thomas Sankara, a beloved former president, and his 12 companions. They were killed in 1987. The mausoleum will open on May 17, a date full of meaning for the country.

Famous architect Francis Kéré designed this special place. He wants visitors to be « amazed and inspired. » The mausoleum is built right where Sankara was killed, in Ouagadougou. Why is it important? Because Sankara worked hard to change his country, fight for justice, and help the poor. This monument will help people remember his courage and dreams.
