Floods in East Africa : millions of people are in danger

@Unicef

Heavy rains are hitting East Africa, causing floods and landslides. Many people have to leave their homes because of this.

For several weeks now, it has been raining heavily in East Africa. Unfortunately, these heavy rains are causing floods and landslides. Last Friday, an organization announced that almost 5 million people have had to leave their homes because of the rain and the problems it causes.

Most of these people come from South Sudan, a neighboring country, where there are problems of war. There are also many people who don’t have a country to welcome them because they don’t have identity papers. In total, almost 18.4 million people have had to leave because of the rain or wars.

The rains have caused many deaths and injuries. Moreover, because of the war in Sudan, many people have to leave their homes every day. The neighboring country, South Sudan, already hosts more than 655,000 people, with an additional 1,800 people arriving each day.

In this region, there is an organization called the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). It is composed of eight East African countries, such as Djibouti and Kenya. They are trying to help all these people who need assistance because of the rains and wars.
