Hatshepsut: The Woman Who Became Pharaoh

A very long time ago in Egypt, a woman became pharaoh, a title usually held by men. Her name was Hatshepsut! Let’s discover the story of this remarkable queen.

More than 3,500 years ago, Hatshepsut lived in ancient Egypt. She was the daughter of a pharaoh and became queen after marrying her half-brother, Thutmose II.

When her husband died, his young son, Thutmose III, was supposed to become king. But he was still a child. Hatshepsut took charge and gradually adopted the titles and symbols of a pharaoh. She became the ruler of Egypt herself.

During her reign, she built impressive monuments, encouraged trade and organised a famous expedition to the land of Punt, an ancient region whose exact location is still debated.

Her magnificent mortuary temple, with its terraces and columns, can still be seen today at Deir el-Bahari, near Luxor.

Hatshepsut left her mark on Egyptian history. Her story reminds us that courage, intelligence and determination can help us achieve great things!
