Ngugi wa Thiong’o, the hero of free words

He believed writing in Kikuyu, his mother tongue, was a form of resistance. One day, his play made the government so angry that he was put in prison. There, he wrote a novel… on toilet paper!

Ngugi later lived in exile, but he never stopped speaking up for Africa. He said: “You can jail me, but not my words.” He believed that Africans could find freedom and pride through their culture.

He remains a hero for all young people who want to change the world with stories and strong ideas.
