Did You Know There Are Penguins in Africa?
When we think of penguins, we often imagine ice and snow. But some penguins live… in Africa! When we think of penguins, we often imagine ice and snow. But some penguins live… in Africa!
Yes, there really are penguins in Africa! The African penguin lives along the coasts of southern Africa, including South Africa and Namibia.
And here is the surprise: it does not need to live in the snow! It spends much of its time in the sea and comes onto the coast to rest and raise its chicks.
But these little penguins need help. Their population has fallen greatly and the species is now threatened. Conservation programmes are working to protect these animals and their habitat.
So next time you picture a penguin, remember: penguins can live in Africa too!
