“Allah Is Not Obliged” : a child’s view of war

A powerful animated film based on Ahmadou Kourouma’s book…

The film “Allah Is Not Obliged”, directed by Zaven Najjar, tells the story of Biram, a young boy who becomes a child soldier in West Africa. This animated movie is based on the famous novel by Ahmadou Kourouma and shows the war through the eyes of a child.

Even though the topic is serious, the film uses strong images and animation to help kids and adults think. Biram tells his story with his own words—sometimes funny, sometimes sad, always brave.

This film helps us understand what some children live through in the world and reminds us how important peace is.
