Amazing African Woman: Wangari Maathai, the Superhero of Trees!

What if planting a tree could help change the world? Wangari Maathai proved it with a simple idea and a lot of courage!

Wangari Maathai was born in Kenya. In 1977, she founded the Green Belt Movement, a movement that encouraged women to plant trees to help fight deforestation.

But Wangari did not stop there! For her, protecting nature, defending women’s rights and building peace were connected. Her movement spread to other African countries and contributed to the planting of more than 30 million trees.

In 2004, Wangari Maathai became the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She was honoured for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.

Her superpower? Planting trees… and helping ideas grow!
