History… Tell Us : Bandung 1955, When Africa Said No

In April 1955, leaders from 29 African and Asian countries met in Bandung, a city in Indonesia. Many of these nations had recently gained independence or were still fighting to become free. Together, they wanted their voices to be heard in a world largely controlled by major powers.

During the conference, participants spoke about peace, cooperation and the right of people to choose their own future. They rejected colonialism and discrimination. Several African leaders supported this movement, which later inspired the creation of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The Bandung Conference became an important symbol for many African countries. It showed that unity could help nations defend their freedom and ideas. More than 70 years later, Bandung remains a strong symbol of solidarity between Africa and Asia.
