In Kenya, farmers find a clever way to live with elephants

What if changing what you grow could help people and elephants live side by side?

In Kenya, some farmers live very close to elephants. But when the big animals are looking for food, they can enter farms and destroy crops.

So some farmers have changed what they grow. In the Tsavo area, some are now growing sesame and sunflowers, two plants elephants like less. This means families can keep farming while elephants find less food in their fields.

Other local people also have an important role: they become Elephant Guardians. They watch the elephants and the farms and help prevent dangerous encounters.

The idea is not to make the elephants disappear. It is about finding clever ways for farmers to grow their crops while elephants can continue living nearby.

Sharing your garden with an elephant is not easy… but in Kenya, people are finding ways to make it work!
