Termites live in colonies that can contain thousands or even millions of individuals. Each termite has a job: some build, some protect the colony, while the queen lays the eggs.
Their termite mounds can grow several metres high. These structures are designed to allow air to circulate and help keep the inside at a fairly stable temperature, even when it is very hot outside. Termites mainly feed on dead wood and decaying plants, helping recycle organic matter and enrich the soil.
