Africa Day, when Africa tells its story

For a long time, many African countries were not free to decide on their own. This means that laws, decisions, and even the future were often controlled by other countries. But one day, men and women began to say: “We want to decide for ourselves.”

So, in many places across the continent, people gathered. They organized marches, spoke in villages and cities, and demanded independence. This word means “to become free.”

Very important figures led this struggle. For example Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana or Patrice Lumumba in Congo helped their countries become independent.

Little by little, many African countries gained their freedom. But after this victory, a new question appeared: how can we move forward together without dividing ourselves? This is the question that prepares the next part of our story around Africa Day, May 25.
