Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the new phase of the programme, which takes place during the rainy season. Since 2019, millions of people have helped plant more than 48 billion seedlings across the country.
The initiative helps fight deforestation and soil erosion while improving air and water quality. Fruit trees and other useful plants are also being grown.
The government is introducing new fruit varieties, as well as cocoa and macadamia trees, to strengthen food security and boost exports. The programme also creates jobs in nurseries, transport and agricultural services.
Thanks to these efforts, Ethiopia has become an international example of ecosystem restoration and sustainable development.
