Kush, the Kingdom of a Thousand Pyramids

On the banks of the Nile stands a kingdom that built more pyramids than Egypt itself. Histoire... Raconte tells the forgotten epic of the Kingdom of Kush.

On the banks of the Nile, south of Egypt, a powerful kingdom developed: Kush, in present-day Sudan. The Kushites built more than 200 pyramids, especially around the city of Meroe — far more than Egypt! Around 744 BC, the kings of Kush even became pharaohs of Egypt for nearly a century, forming what historians call the 25th dynasty. This kingdom was known for its skill in ironworking and for its important trade along the Nile. Today, these pyramids, smaller and steeper than Egypt’s, remain less famous, but just as fascinating.
