One in five children lives in poverty in the richest countries

Hey there, friends,

Have you heard about child poverty? There’s a big problem: one in five children in some of the wealthiest countries in the world lives in poverty. That’s really sad, isn’t it?

A new report says that in 40 very rich countries, many more children were poor between 2014 and 2021. The report was made by people who study children for the United Nations.

Even though poverty has gone down a bit, more than 69 million children still live in families with very little money. That’s way too many!

Some countries, like Poland and Slovenia, are doing a good job helping poor children. But in other rich countries, things aren’t going very well.

Poverty is tough for children. It means they might not have enough food, clothes, or even things they need for school. It can make them sad and sick.

The saddest part is that when children grow up in poverty, they have less chance of getting a good job later. It can even make them sick for their whole life. That’s not fair, is it?

The report also says that some children are more affected than others. For example, children in families with only one parent are three times more likely to be poor. Disabled children or those from certain backgrounds are also more affected.

The report says that to help children, governments should give more money to families with very little money. They should also make sure all children can go to school and have what they need.

It’s important that all children have the same chances, even if their family doesn’t have a lot of money. We all need to help so that every child can grow up happy and healthy!
